Dr. Mercill Blog About Smiling

Try Something New – Smile at the World!

Smiling comes naturally if you have a reason to smile. If you just got a raise, a new puppy, you’re headed on a vacation, or for just getting something you’ve been wanting. Smiling for no apparent reason may seem like you are being fake. But believe it or not, just putting a smile on your face can start to affect your whole disposition! In fact, it can even affect the disposition of those around you.

Here’s a test. Go into a store, say Walmart. Look around for a grumpy looking cashier. Take your purchase through their checkout and make it a point to smile the whole time. See if their mood changed or not. The cashier may be having a bad day, but your smile might be just the thing to get them out of the mulligrumps.

There even was a study done to show that if your make yourself smile, you would be less stressed! Now who wouldn’t want that!

Smiling has Benefits!

Smiling has other benefits besides helping your mood improve. It makes you look more attractive! There is an old saying that it takes more muscles to frown than to smile. Keep your face relaxed and young looking by putting a smile on it! The Good Book references the benefits of a happy heart: A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. Other references to the advantages of smiling include having a lower heart rate, a stronger immune system, becoming more successful and increased productivity.

There are hundreds if not thousands of books dedicated to helping people be more positive and how it can change their lives for the better. You can read them to your hearts content, but it will take action on your part if you want to see a change in your life. Start by becoming a “SMILER”! Try it; you’ll be surprised at the change in your own life and those around you.
